Political relations

Bilateral relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) take place in a favorable context. BiH membership in the Western Balkans area and its European perspective and Euro-Atlantic relationship with BiH place among Romania's foreign policy priorities.

Whithin the bilateral relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania has adopted a balanced and impartial attitude, in order to avoid any suspicion from the two constituent entities and promote in normal conditions the specific interests of our country.

Diplomatic relations between Romania and BiH were established in 1st of March 1 1996. Romanian Embassy in Sarajevo was opened on 28th of March 1998. Bosnia and Herzegovina opened its embassy in Bucharest on 20th of November 2006.

On 28th of October 2011, the Romanian Ambassador H.E. Mr Filip Teodorescu presented his credentials to the Chairman of BiH Presidency, H.E. Mr. Zeljko Komsic.

History of bilateral visits in the last 4 years

- On April 4, 2008 an official delegation of BiH, headed by former acting president, Haris Silajdzic, attended the NATO Summit in Bucharest;

- On March 20, 2008 the Romanian President, HE. Mr Traian Basescu payed an official visit in Sarajevo, considered a good opportunity to relaunch bilateral relations;

- On July 18, 2010, during the official visit of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Sarajevo, H.E. Mr Theodor Baconschi, it was underlined the need to address the bilateral dialogue in a pragmatic way, focusing on boosting economic relations and civil society.
